Poetry Friday

I recently read a great article by Sylvia Vardell called Classroom Connections: Take Five for Poetry which was in the April issue of Booklist. This article http://www.booklistonline.com/Classroom-Connections-Take-Five-for-Poetry-Sylvia-Vardell/pid=5974117 talked about how teachers can help expose children in their classrooms to poetry every single week (not just in April during Poetry Month). Inspired by this article I’ve decided to start posting a poem on the blog to share with you all. You’ll be able to find all these books at the Manlius Library, so if there is ever a poem that inspires you, makes you giggle, or one that you just have to share with everybody, feel free to stop by and pick up a copy of the book and maybe discover more poems!

Are You a Book Person?

A good book is a kind

Of person with a mind

Of her own,

Who lives alone,

Standing on a shelf

By herself.

She has a spine,

A heart, a soul,

And a goal —-

To capture, to amuse,

To light a fire

(You’re the fuse),

Or else, joyfully,

Just to be.

From beginning

To end,

Need a friend?
